| SoF1 v1.07F (Platinum) Patch (fixed version) - File Description |
 |
Description: NOTE: You need to install this patch over 1.06!!!
So for those of you that installed the BUGGY 1.07 Patch you have to do an uninstall first
NOTE 2: There's quite a history to the 1.07 version already. Click Here and read the comments and you'll see why!
Matter a fact is that if you're still at 1.06, get this patch (1.07f) and not the 1.07 one.
If you're still on 1.03, 1.04 or 1.05, get the 1.06 (Gold) Patch first, and then get this one!
Still having problems? Post your complaint on the official Raven forum! Try to explain what you did to get it working!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, today is the day: Raven officially released the long-awaited 1.07-patch:
The patch removes WON support from the game and exchanges it for GameSpy browser support. (CD keys no longer required to play online) There are also a number of other minor bug fixes included.
This patch requires that Soldier of Fortune be patched up to 1.06, first, which means if you have the Soldier of Fortune Gold edition, this is the only patch you need. If you have the standard Soldier of Fortune, you need the 1.06 Gold patch first and then this one.
Here are some parts of the info-file:
This patch adds direct support for GameSpy while removing WON.net support. As of August 2001, WON no longer hosts Soldier of Fortune multiplayer gaming. Various other minor issues were resolved as well.
This patch is recommended for all multiplayer players of Soldier of Fortune. All multiplayer competitors must be using the same version to compete. Note that after August 2001, version 1.07 or higher will be required for all Internet play.
The patch is not needed for the single player game, but is recommended in case multiplay is accessed in the future.
After installation, the patch will require approximately 2MB additional disk space.

Installing the Patch
--------------------
You must have a valid installation of Soldier of Fortune Gold for the patch to install.
Locate the downloaded 1.07 patch executable and double click to run it. Follow the instructions
on screen to install the patch.
If the patch is successful, you will receive a message confirming installation.
Note: You must have version 1.06 of Soldier of Fortune (referred to as the Gold version) to
install this patch. If you do not, please download that version and install it first.
Troubleshooting
---------------
If the patch fails to locate the install location or if the files appear to be modified, the
patch will not install. In this case, please reinstall Soldier of Fortune and any associated
patches (e.g., 1.06 Gold) before running the 1.07 patch.
Cancelling the installation of the patch will cause an unstable installation. If you cancel
during or after the file copying routine, you will need to reinstall Soldier of Fortune before
it can be played.
Additional Information
----------------------
Soldier of Fortune includes links to the WON website in the Start Menu. These links may no
longer function. They can be deleted from the Start Menu if desired.
WONswap may be uninstalled if it is only being used for Soldier of Fortune. However, other games,
such as Dark Reign II, use WONswap as well, so do not uninstall WONswap if you are unsure if
it is in use by other games.
