***This downloadable code is only a test of the technology for Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix®. This is not a representation of the final version of the game, nor is this download an official demo of the Multiplayer aspect of the title. ***
Thank you for downloading Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix MP Test for your PC. This Readme will provide you with everything you need to know to install the game and fully enjoy the Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix Multiplayer experience.
MAIN MENU
The Main Menu presents you with several areas for customization listed along the top of the screen. You begin in the Options area in the Player Setup screen.
OPTIONS:
Player Setup:
This screen allows you to change your online name and appearance. Note: Certain characters cannot be used within the name field (examples: “ or ). Although the characters may be represented in the menu or shell when entering a name, they will not appear as such when the player connects to the server.
Controls Setup:
This screen allows you to change the controls for your game play. Sub-Menus for this screen are Look, Move, Weapon, Misc, and Chat. The Defaults sub-menu will reset all of your previously bound keys to the default settings.
Display Setup:
This screen allows you to customize the Video settings of the game. From this screen, you can select Video Mode, Fullscreen, Geometric Detail, Texture Detail, etc.
Sound Setup:
This screen lets you change your sound settings.
Misc. Setup:
In this screen, you can select and alter several settings. For instance: Mouse sensitivity and functionality, monitor brightness, weapon auto-switch, crosshairs, Target Identity, HUD options, etc.
Scalability Options:
This screen allows you to select the Shadow Quality, detail of your Textures, and the quality of the FX.
Network Settings:
This screen allows you to set your connection speed, Maximum FPS rate, an the ability to turn on the Lagometer. The Lagometer will give you real-time feedback on your connection to any server. This screen also contains the SOCKS5 section to allow you to set up the Multiplayer Test behind a firewall.
At the bottom of the Main Menu there are three buttons. These Buttons are Join Server, Create Server, and Options. The Options Screen is the default tab selected at start up.
JOIN SERVER:
Selecting the Join Server button will allow you to join any existing Internet or LAN game currently running. On this screen are the following options:
Get New List – This will allow you to get the latest listing of active servers.
Refresh List - This will update all servers currently displayed in the server window.
Source - This allows you to select the listings for servers based on their location: Local, Internet or Favorites.
Type - This allows you to limit the server list to a specific type of hosted game.
Empty / Full - These options allow you to view servers that are Empty or Full of players.
Join Game - The box with the Arrow in the upper right corner of this screen is the Join Game button. Select this when you have highlighted a server you wish to join.
New Favorite - This will allow you to manually enter a server’s IP address.
Add Favorite - When you press this button, the server currently highlighted in the list will be placed in your Favorites list.
Server Info - This button will bring up more detailed info on the server that is currently highlighted in the list.
Find Friend - You can search for your friends with this button. You will need to enter the name of the person you are looking for with exact spelling and upper/lower case letters.
CREATE SERVER:
This feature allows you to create a Multiplayer game. This screen defaults to the Maps section.
Maps - This page shows you a list of maps you can select for your server. In the MP Test, there is only one map available: The Shop Under Siege.
Type - You can select the game type that will play on your server. Your choices are Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Elimination, and Infiltration.
Options- This screen allows you to setup the specifics of your server. Here you can select options such as Time Limit, Score Limit, Host Name, Pure Server, Dedicated, Maximum Number of players, etc.
Start Server - When all settings are to your liking, you can begin the server by selecting the button in the upper right part of the screen. This will begin your server with all options and settings you have just entered.
KNOWN ISSUES:
=============
There are a few technical issues that we are aware of at present.
ATI Radeon 8500 Flashes - There is a known issue with the latest drivers where the video can appear to 'flash' during gameplay.
MONITORS:
=========
- Please make sure your monitor supports the game resolution you are trying to play in. To check what resolutions your monitor supports, do the following:
1. Open up My Computer.
2. Double-click on Control Panel.
3. Find the Display icon and open it.
4. Choose the Settings tab.
5. Locate the resolution slider bar in the Screen Area box and drag it to the far right.
The resolution choice shown is the maximum resolution your monitor is capable of displaying. If you do not want to change to this resolution now, select Cancel. Your Screen Area should be set to the game resolution you are trying to play in or higher.
NOTE: Please make sure your monitor type is properly specified to insure correct reporting of available video resolutions.
JOYSTICK SUPPORT:

- There is no support for joystick devices of any type in Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix®.

Posts: | Got 400-500kb/sec from Fragland (excellent server), and the game rocks, got tired of the excessive gore though so I'm taking a break. Runs great on my old GF2 on a 500mhz, even with alot of explosions happening so if you could play SOF then SOF2 should flow smoothly too. |

Posts: 1439 | Well, i like it a lot, but i can't call it a CS-killer (i like CS too)!
Infiltration is cool, but it is a BIT like rescueing hostages in CS... In CS i prefer defuse-maps myself (more variation)!
Speed is a bit slow by default, but try to run your own server with tweaked g_speed! I tried to play with g_speed 1000 and nearly jumped over a building but cratered by WALKING a ladder down
The game is fun... too bad it's only 1 map!
I prefer CTF... too bad that gamemode is NOT supported in this map. But it does support DM, TDM, INF en Elimation
I definately gonna buy the full product as soon it hits the shops! The RMG rocks! And Raven promised to fully support the mod-community |

- You can't sort servers on gametype or ping (didn't testing sorting it on map, lol)
- When the scores are on screen, you can chat but you can't see what you are typing
But the rest looked very cool |

Posts: 23 | Hey I found out how to make a color name. All you need to do is open up console. Then hold shift and press the ^ key which is 6 also. Then press a number 1-6 or 0 for the color black. The ^ should disappear but when you type your typing is in a differant color. To change ur name type either /name or name then press ^ then press number 1-6 or 0 for black then type ur letters. Differant color combo's can be used in ur name like for me i would type ^1SNIP*^0Demon and my name would be SNIP*Demon exept the SNIP would be red and Demon would be black. Simple as pie. Btw this works on quake3arena. |

Graphics... ehm so-so? I dunno man, but you must be running it in 640x480 with all settings low... poor weapon sounds? Sounds to me that you don´t have any speakers hooked up to your pc cuz the weapon sounds are definately kicking *****!

Im sure than many people on 56k have a faster computer than you, only are limited to dialup due to location or the like. I was on 56k once, ad i can *****ure you its not the computer speed but the low bandwidth. Try learning something about computers before comming up with some stupid comment like that.
Now that I have that flame out of the way the game plays okay on my cable, the graphics are clear and smooth and the sound effects are okies...have to see what the full version can offer though.... the blood is a bit too much as well imo.

Posts: 1439 | #31, Snip Demon: Yes, it's VERY hard to find a decent server with a good ping (can't sort on it), desired game type (can't sort on it), free slots and no p*****word! Raven told me that an icon will be added for p*****worded servers (of which i think it's cool). Hopefully they also do something about refreshing those servers coz serverinfo changes FAST and as soon as you have renewed or refreshed your serverlist, partly it's old info again! CS can refresh selected server... Hopefully SOF2 will be able to do the same in the future! |

Posts: 2724 | I accidentally started the leaked beta instead of the mp test i had just installed, I saw all the servers in the list, tried to join one and got some crazy error... good that it doesn´t work now w00t
And as for server browsing, yeah it's pretty damn crappy / buggy for a friggin MP Test Tribes 2 still has my #1 award for best browsing "stuff" but i'm sure everything and all will be fixed in the final |

Q3a is pretty tight if you like fantasy mp combat but I prefer realistic games more. Although the skins in q3a are very tight. I wish they had skins like that in sof that would be sweet. I never played half life but I hear half life is a great game even better then sof but i dunno |

Posts: | It works, but the text is like... illegibly, its all fuzzy so I cant read a thing.. of course I use a Voodoo 5 which is shafted by just about every new game coming out, but is there a way to make it so I can actually read whats is written, the only thing that did not look fuzzy were the skins. |

Am in Texas so all you Texans will get awesome Bandwitdh but the only problem is that i still can't figure out the Routing to go and let all you guys in the network. Stupid network p*****words and stuff oh well if i get those pw's i'll dedicate all those damn 25 pcs to SOF2 beta testing and when the full comes out that one too.

Posts: 1 | i d/led it and i can serve and connect to my friends who serve but i cant get a list of servers on internet nor can i manually input a dedicated server ip when i do and try to connect i get an error stating CLIENT_UNKNOWN_TO_AUTH and it jus times out the connection request.. i dont know why im getting this considering i have red/led the file at least 7 times and i have ran through my registry and deleted every string relating to anything sof2 related to then reinstalled but i keep getting the error any ideas on how to fix this? |

Posts: 23 | Ah this is a great demo I must say. Just a few minutes ago I played a very good game with some other people that lasted a while. Man I am sure glad that I have been playing sof1 for so long there are some good people playing the demo but I am better then everyone I have played cus I have not lost one game yet. Is there going to be a ctf in the sof2 final version I forgot I think I read somewhere where it told what modes would be in infiltration, some other new one, dm, and ctf but I am not sure. I know they need to put ctf because that is like a popular mode to play, although I prefer dm.

Posts: | For people not able to connect into servers make sure you don't have a firewall or proxy enabled if you do you have to enter those settings into sof2 demo. If you are not sure when using windows xp the default is to have it on I would make sure you disable those and try again. |

Posts: 1439 | I liked CS 1.0 best... 1.3 gave too many headshots and 1.4 is too slow. I agree that Valve wanted to ban bunnyhoppers and shooting wabbits, but their solution takes too much speed out of the game (try to run and jump on those trains in de_train for example)

but now i have a other problem.
i could not open the OpenGL so i downloaded SciTech GLdirect, now it works but if i am in the game for about 10 minutes i get this

Posts: 10 | it's a good demo, of course only made up to one map called mp_shop, still ownage, always download it on school with my friends and i create a server. so much fun. but a down point is the fact that some commands won't work on the demo version... like setting running speed or jump gravity (seta g_speed ''number"" / seta g_gravity ''number''), anyway, ill give this a 9. excellent. just excellent! |
